Initiated by Telekom Austria and Ars Electronica, net.culture.space is a public platform that offers space for precisely this kind of interdisciplinary reflection and adjustment. By means of cyclically alternating interactive scenarios, net.culture.space puts the spotlight on the many-faceted, dynamic forms of contemporary media art and attempts to promote the development and exchange of ideas, concepts and visions.

We are living at the dawn of a new era: that of the knowledge-  based information society. The necessary basis has  already been established, in the form of globe-spanning
broadband networks for all types of communication –  language, data and multimedia. For us, it is of primary  importance that all persons be given equal chances to participate  in the information society.

Art, Technology and Society 

The technological developments of recent years have been so  rapid that we have not yet caught up in terms of cultural and  social reflection and adjustment. We are only just beginning to
recognize many of the far-reaching effects of these developments  on our everyday life. In many cases, transient hypes  obscure our view of their true potential. The interface of art,
technology and society, where this potential may be found, is  Ars Electronica’s declared sphere of action.
With net.culture.space we have created a public platform where  this interdisciplinary exchange can take place and where the  many-faceted and intriguing forms of contemporary media art  can take the spotlight.
